DANGER is real, but FEAR is a Choice – Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid

DANGER is real, but FEAR is a Choice

FEAR: We all have it; it is part of what makes us human. We fear because we feel, and we fear because we care. However, we can learn to manage it by learning to see the end game.

Our imagination helps us to see the future and our passion drives us to create it. But why should we let FEAR stop us from being AWESOME?

What type of fear

There are many type of fears, but for the sake of entrepreneurship let’s focus on “the fear of failure” and the “fear of success”

Fear of Failure: This is the one I struggle with the most. How do I put myself out there? What if it doesn’t work out? What will people say about me? and what if I am just wasting my time? These are all questions that I ask myself on a daily basis (and I am pretty sure I am not the only one here) but the truth is, we care too damn much about what other people think. If we could just focus more on ourselves and our abilities and worry less about others opinion of us, our lives would be so much easier.

“A head full of fears has no space for dreams”

Fear of Success: When I first learned about this one I thought it made absolutely no sense. Why would anyone in their right mind be afraid of success? Seems crazy right? But it’s true, we fear what can happen if we become successful. The same way we think about what people think of us if we fail, we fear the same if we succeed.

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.”

– Bill Cosby

How to overcome fear

I get motivated: I have set up a morning routine to help prepare for the day. No matter what comes my way, the last thing I want to do is make excuses to why I wasn’t able to get the job done. So I have to get motivated, get my head in the game and always think positive. My morning routine includes listening to podcast interviews, music, motivational videos on YouTube – this one seems to get the job done.

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

–  Zig Ziglar

I make no excuses: As I mentioned before, the last thing I want to do is make excuses. So I force myself to understand that any obstacle preventing me from completing a task is an “Excuse”. (This way of thinking helps me to keep pushing no matter what) there are exceptions of course, but it helps to think this way.

I just do it: When it’s all said and done nothing matters if you don’t take action. (Action is the best way to overcome FEAR.) Although FEAR sometimes holds me back from my goals, I always push myself to Get Motivated” “Make No Excuses” “Just Do It.

 “FEAR: False Evidence Appearing Real”

– Eleanor Roosevelt

Conclusion

As you can see there’s a lot of FEAR and SELF-DOUBTS going on here, but that’s part of being human. Fear makes us nervous and scared, but it also makes us excited and happy. No matter how much we doubt ourselves, deep down inside we know we have what it takes to accomplish great things – and live awesome lives.

Fear is all around us. It takes a lot of courage to overcome fear. Even something as simple as publishing this post takes a bit of “courage” on my part (Because there’s a chance that people won’t care) but I’ve been training myself to always be courageous. So here it is. It is the only way to know for sure what you think about it.

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.”

– Mark Twain

Fear Quotes

  • “Danger is real, but Fear is a choice.” – Will Smith [Movie After Earth]
  • “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • “We must travel in the direction of our fear.” – John Berryman
  • “Courage is never to let your actions be influenced by your fears.” – Arthur Koestler
  • “Always chase your dreams instead of running from your fears.” – Unknown

Whenever FEAR seems to be taking over, just remember – the danger might be real, but Fear is a choice you make.  so choose wisely.
