Please tell us a little about your business. What is your company, Total Boss Wealth and Wellness, all about?

Of course – so happy to be here! My business, Total Boss Wealth and Wellness, or Total Boss for short, is all about embracing your inner confidence, authenticity, and boss, in order to elevate yourself, others around you, while reaching your big goals, plus so much more!

My business started in 2018 as a personal trainer/fitness business, transitioning into full-time entrepreneurship in 2019. I absolutely love the fitness/wellness side of things, however, Total Boss has expanded into so much more! Total Boss hit six figures in 2022, and has transitioned into the business coaching space, as well as events. We have four yearly Total Boss events – three national, one international. My favorite part about Total Boss is the positive impact it has on others – nothing warms my heart more.

Please tell us a little about your background, and how you started your company?

Yes! No one believes me when I say this, but I was bullied / a total social outcast while in high school. During those challenging times, the only thought that got me through was “I know I am going to make an impact when I am older – I am not sure how, but, I just know I am going to do something big”.

After graduating from college in 2016, I met my first mentor in 2018 while at my first sales job. She had a gymnastics fitness business, took me under her wing, and showed me the ropes / got me started with my business – I am forever grateful for her to this day! I became fully self employed in 2019, and here we are today.

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? And why?

Flexibility, communication and fully trusting yourself as an entrepreneur. These three skills are developed overtime, and take practice and work on making them better.

  • Flexibility – as an entrepreneur, our paths have a ton of twists, turns and unexpected challenges. Keeping the goal in mind while having a flexible path to get to that goal is key – I wish I knew that sooner.
  • Communication – communication skills are absolutely vital. Whether you are communicating with a client, crew member or business partner, communication skills will make or break your business. One of my core values is communication – if someone is not a good communicator, that is okay, however, they are not a fit for our organization. I am very up front about that during the intake process!
  • Fully trusting yourself – as an entrepreneur, we have to make some wild decisions! Additionally, as mentioned above, you will be taken down some paths that you do not predict, and that is okay! Developing the skill of fully trusting yourself and your ability to handle any situation with confidence that comes your way has been a game changer for me. It will also save you lots of stress!

What are your plans for the future? And how do you plan to grow the company?

This question is coming at the perfect time! Well, I am extremely proud and humbled to say that my business hit six figures this year, in 2022. I honestly was a little shocked when I totaled up the numbers from the year, as it was not on my “goals list” to hit six figs in 2022.

This has really caused me to think and reflect. At the beginning of 2022, I never would have dreamed that I would be doing this at the end of 2022, however, I did create a rough seven-year plan to seven figures. If the map stays aligned, that would put me as a seven figure business owner at age 35.

However, my mission is to create impact / help others who need my help / be an example for people who have been bullied, and to prove that us “underdogs” can come out on top, shining brighter than ever. My goal for the next two years is to really focus on growing the events side of my business – not adding more locations, however, making the four events bigger / more upscale / elite.

I also plan to hire a personal assistant in 2023 – I will eventually need someone to help with the logistics / small details of the events. 2024 I hope to have my own Total Boss office space in Dallas, with 2-5 employees!

How have the pandemic and lockdown affected your business?

When the pandemic/lockdown happened, I had a feeling it was coming, so I was trying my best to be mentally prepared. My heart goes out to every single person who was negatively affected, however, I am extremely lucky to say that the pandemic ended up being a positive for my business.

During the time of the pandemic, I was a fully self-employed business owner / personal trainer, and was renting in person gym space to train my clients (my business now is 100% online – it previously was in person). Because I was just renting space and owned my own business, all of my clients were “mine”, not the gyms, like other trainers at big box gyms. When I heard the gyms were shutting down, I went straight to work and created a plan for each client for online training – I created the entire thing in 72 hours.

I was extremely blessed and lucky that 80% of my clients stayed. My business has been fully online ever since. It was definitely the push I needed to transition into the online space, for sure!

Total Boss Business and Total Boss the events would not have been born without this – I would still be an in person self employed trainer.

How do you separate yourself from your competitors?

My personality and brand!! For sure – I have a very unique personality and personal brand. Personal branding is key, especially when getting started! People join your team because they like you and your brand, not necessarily your product or service.

What were the top three mistakes you made starting your business, and what did you learn from them?

My top three mistakes were, having a scarcity mindset, waking up late, and having poor organizational skills. However, I hesitate to call them “mistakes” – they definitely are mistakes that I have worked hard to improve upon, however, the traits listed are either from childhood beliefs, or, who I naturally am.

I have had to work very hard to wake up early – I now wake up around 530 every day, and I am naturally disorganized. Therefore, I had to teach myself how to be organized. Same with the scarcity mindset – this is huge for any entrepreneur, and very common, especially when taught from your parents. Having an abundance mindset is necessary for growth, ideas, belief in yourself, and it helps with stressful situations arise.

Tell us a little bit about your marketing process, and what has been the most successful form of marketing for you?

My marketing process is very geared towards the direction of where I would like my business to go. I do a mixture of photos, videos and reels. Generally, I am for 3-4 videos or reels per week, I post at least once per day, and my posts are a mixture of inspirational messages, business related tips with a sprinkle of offers and bodybuilding things (I am also a competitive bikini bodybuilder).

It is crucial to market yourself, and find a “name” that works for you. It took awhile for Total Boss to be born, but now people refer to me as the Total Boss – so cool! Marketing myself and staying authentic to the true me can be key. People can smell inauthenticity from miles away, so staying true to who you are is necessary! The rest will fall into place/results will follow.

What have been your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?

Cash flow for sure. Yes, my business hit six figures this year, however, I had to run my bank accounts to $0 at least five or six times this year. In my experience, the level to go from $50 – $100K is totally different than $0-$50K.

In order to get to $100K, you must have a totally different mindset and spend money – you must spend money to make money, and be okay with more money going out than you are used to. Running my accounts to $0 has really taught me to trust myself and my abilities, have a ton of faith that I am on the right direction, and to not quit when times get hard. You overcome this by getting creative with new offers, and trusting yourself as an entrepreneur. My events were born because I ran all of my bank accounts to zero, so, for that, I am extremely grateful.

What was your first business idea, and what did you do with it?

Creating packages for my fitness program! The first package I created was called the “I’m loving it with glitter” package – LOL. I have grown a lot since then! I believe it was a fitness and nutrition bundle.

I had no idea what I was doing at that point in my business, but it was a great start, and I have learned a ton from trial and error. It has taught me how to create packages well, with the help of my coach. I still have package offerings to this day – just more refined and upscale!

What are you learning now? Why is that important?

It is December 2022 at the time of writing this, therefore, new years goals are right around the corner. I am learning the importance of goal planning, and how to properly set one, three and seven year goals. I am learning that there are levels to goal planning – I never knew that! It is important because as an entrepreneur, you must have a road map / plan. If that plan deviates, that’s okay. It is necessary to have a starting plan with mile markers, and pivot as needed.

If you started your business again, would you do things differently?

Nope! I am extremely grateful for the path I have been on, and I truly feel as if my life events happened for a reason. I have been through some incredibly challenging situations mentally, and I am so grateful for them, as they have made me stronger.

You must go through the challenges – you can’t ignore them. Challenges are valuable learning lessons that are necessary for your growth. I am extremely happy with the way my business has grown and aligned with myself personally as I grow, and I can not wait for the future!

What are the top three online tools and resources you are currently using to grow your company?

Facebook, my business owner mastermind group that I have joined called Apex, and calendly. These may seem basic, but, the basics are how you grow – nothing super flashy or fancy here! I run my business almost entirely off of Facebook. Your group / social circles are key – your network is your net worth. Apex is led by the awesome Ryan Stewman, and I am very honored to be a part of such an elite mastermind.

I would highly recommend you get around other entrepreneurs – we are our own breed. Calendly – my life is always on my calendar, and following the calendar is extremely important, along with time organization. These three things are the recipe for success!

What’s a productivity tip you swear by?

Do what you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it! It sounds cliche, but procrastination is a killer. If you say you are going to do something, DO IT, even if it’s not perfect. Imperfect action is KEY.

Can you recommend one book, one podcast, and one online course for entrepreneurs?

  • Book: Can’t Hurt Me – David Goggins
  • Online Course: Building Your Machine by Ryan Stewman (Apex)
  • Podcast: The Inflowential CEO Podcast by Stacy Raske (my coach), or, Rewire by Ryan Stewman

If you had only $1,000 to start a business, how would you spend it? You have a computer and unlimited wifi

Honestly, a computer and unlimited wifi is all you need – my overhead for my business was literally $25 / month before I started growing $50K – $100K. I would do a totally online coaching business/program, and spend that $1K on a highly reputable course on how to grow your business on Facebook, and get your own online clients. This would be the fastest way to get cash flow with the cheapest overhead.

At this point, you need knowledge and the “fast track” on how to get clients via social media. Once those clients start, even if it’s only a few, you can take that money and re-invest it right into your biz, and only live off of the bare minimum. It’s super easy to start a business with $1K, you just have to be creative!

What helps you stay driven and motivated to keep going in business?

Hmm, this type of question is tough for me. I wish I had a concrete answer, but I don’t. I love what I do with all of my heart –  I was born on this planet to be a business owner. I just have the don’t quit gene – it can be a blessing and a curse sometimes LOL. During the hard times, I just tell myself “this is happening for a reason, it is taking me where I need to go next – I will get through this”, and it always works out like it’s supposed to.

What is your favorite quote?

“I am not for everyone, and that is okay”.

-Stacy Raske, my coach

What advice would you give to new entrepreneurs just starting out?

Take risks, trust yourself, have FUN! Most importantly, celebrate all of your wins along the way, and love the challenges. You CAN go after your huge, powerful dreams! I am cheering you on 100%!

Who should we interview next and why?

My coach, Stacy Raske! She is amazing – full of knowledge, an amazing approach to business, and very down to earth. I think she would be a great addition to Billion Success!

What is your definition of success?

When you can embrace your wins, be fully proud of yourself, and be fully present in every aspect of your journey.

How do you personally overcome fear?

Love this question, as I used to have a ton of fears, and have worked through the majority of them. Overcoming fear is way deeper than just “getting over it”, or, saying something along the lines of “I am fearful, I should not be feeling this way”. Fears are valid and real – they never go away, we just get better at managing them.

Fully trusting myself has helped me overcome fear. Confidence in yourself is the best and most effective way to overcome fear – do the inner work / work on YOU and your amazing self, and the fears go away quickly!
