Susanne Grant is an Award-winning Work-Life Balance Integration Expert and Intuitive Business Coach & Consultant and International Bestselling Author of the book Leaders: Women Who Change The World Through Their Business. She supports Busy Business Owners and CEOs to scale their business by becoming an authority in their field without putting in more hours.
After being diagnosed with Complex PTSD at 17 and a burnout at 25, Susanne knew it was time for a drastic change. Even though she was told she was beyond help, she found a way to recover from the “unrecoverable” in the years to come. Understanding the importance of (mental) health and the impact it has on your daily life, performance and intimate relationships has given her great insights which she is now honoured to give back to her clients.
Life can be a challenge, to say the least, especially when you are managing different hats such as business owner, partner, parent and more! But the thing to ask ourselves: Is a business sustainable if the business owner is suffering mentally and/or within his/her relationships? Is that the kind of “wealth” we should aim for as a society?
Susanne is passionate about creating real sustainable health and wealth for all by changing mindset, unhelpful beliefs and breaking the (generational) patterns, where we no longer accept outdated norms; where the hustle culture is promoted by many and being busy is seen as a badge of honour. It is time to work smarter, not harder!
What is Grant Method Coaching all about?
I started my business in 2015 as I was passionate about helping mothers-to-be during pregnancy and childbirth as many of them suffer from PTSD and postnatal depression. I wanted to give them the support I never had during this time in my life.
After my second child, my business changed to supporting business owners and their family. Working mostly female entrepreneurs it became clear to change the inequality we need to start inside the homes. We need to start taking a holistic approach. If we look at the unit as a whole; being a parent, partner, child, sister, brother, and more AND look at the different elements that make this unit work i.e. when all the needs are met emotionally, spiritually, physically, intellectually AND financially.
That’s how the Grant Method was born! I have a real knack for creating systems and structures that work for the person in front of me and as I love mixing and matching these different elements together for my clients, blending them, shaking things up so they can fall into place in a way that works for them, their business and their family.
The most fascinating thing happened as my clients felt fulfilled by their work-life situation. New passions appeared, new opportunities were created, they started giving by volunteering. As I support these inspiring entrepreneurs to create a work-life balance that works for them, they are now impacting their communities all over the world.
We can be successful without sacrificing our health, relationships and ourselves. If we want to change this cultural belief, we have to become the change so the next generation doesn’t think success only comes through hard work.
How did you start Grant Method Coaching?
After the birth of my daughter in 2015, I realised the collective lie “hard work equals success” wasn’t working for me and I did not want the next generation to grow up and think this was “normal”. So I made a powerful decision. I gave myself permission to break free of the old way of doing business and created a new business model – where holistic health and wealth are an integral part of the business.
A business that would support my vision, my dreams, my wellbeing and my young family! A business that would set my soul on fire and make my wildest dreams come true and create extraordinary transformation for my clients. Today, I run an award-winning coaching company and host sold-out masterminds and events, and I show other business owners how to do the same by redefining what success means to them.
My background working as a data analyst for international companies and having a masters degree in history, really allows me to connect with my clients because I understand where a lot of the patterns come from historically speaking. As I combine this with holistic coaching modalities, we can really get to the core of issues quickly.
How do you plan to grow Grant Method Coaching?
We are in the middle of adding digital products to the website as we speak. As a lot of my clients seem to be struggling with the same topics around work-life balance, productivity, outsourcing and mindset. As my business X4 in 2020, I am expecting a similar growth so I am starting to train a health coach later this year to support my clients as well.
Another goal of mine is to start working with HR departments and corporate teams, on top of my 1:1 clients, who are ready to embrace the importance of mental and physical health of the team and the business as a whole. For example, Microsoft recently experimented with a 4-day workweek, and productivity jumped by 40%, while electricity consumption was down by 23.1%. Studies have found there’s a demand for a shorter workweek to create a better work-life balance. I am on a mission and I want to be the one that leads this mental health and wealth revolution.
How do you separate yourself from your competitors?
As an Intuitive Business Coach & Consultant, I have the powerful ability to help you get to the core of your (energetic) blocks/mindset quickly. For example, if you are constantly hitting the same numbers, no matter what you try, it might be because of a program running on a subconscious level. What I often see with my clients, who are chronically too busy, is that this often comes from childhood. They stay busy, too busy, just so they can avoid dealing with how they feel. Once we get to the bottom of this program, we can easily change this with some powerful coaching modalities and get them back into alignment with their goals. As we quickly get to the core of the problem, it will resolve just as fast. That is why I live by the motto “Work Smarter, Not Harder”. It makes for a very effective and productive way to deal with situations head-on allowing my clients to quickly change their current life and habits. No more burnout or overwhelm required!
What is one thing that you do daily to grow as an entrepreneur?
Show up consistently. However, I don’t mean this in a way that you always have to push through and hustle until the next sale. Sometimes showing up can mean, showing up in your pyjamas drinking your smoothie on the couch watching TV. Work on your energy/mindset, show up for yourself and your business, in whatever way you feel fit (but isn’t sabotaging you and your success).
What are three books or courses you recommend for new entrepreneurs?
My favorite resources have to be from Money Mindset Mentor Denise Duffield-Thomas, Business Strategist Wendy Maynard and Brand Specialist Nikki Clark. Denise specialises in helping women with their money mindset, something that I believe to be very valuable when starting and growing your business.
Wendy’s knowledge on how to build your brand, especially via LinkedIn and grow your business via this platform has to be one of my favorite ways to reach new possible clients/businesses.
Nikki helps you get clear on your brand and teaches how to sell via storytelling.
These three resources combined are the golden ticket to success! Highly recommend checking this out if you are just starting on your entrepreneurial journey.
What is the one thing you wish you knew before starting your business?
How important mindset is! That is the one thing I wish I knew. It really can make or break your business and it is often so underestimated by many. If you want to go fast, get support!
What is the most effective marketing strategy to grow your business?
For me, it was becoming a best-selling author at the beginning of 2020 and all the speaking/features that came from it. It made me realise that networking in the broadest sense of the word, is the way to get new leads quickly. Especially when you are just starting out, having no network besides your mum and friends liking your posts, it can be exhausting to post every day hoping to make a sale.
As my motto is “Work Smart, Not Hard”, there are different things you can do to effectively grow your business. Who says you have to start at the bottom and work your way up? Start at the top and invest your time and resources in events (such as a book, magazine, or podcast interviews) that will give you a big ROI.
What’s your best piece of advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs?
Get help! Hire support in your business or work with a mentor. Anyone who has done what you want to do, or can help you do simple tasks to help you grow your business right from the start. No need to do it by yourself and try to figure it out as you go. Don’t waste your time reinventing the wheel.
What is your favorite quote?
“Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History” by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich is my favorite quote. Originally, I believe the quote to indicate that well-behaved women should make history, but in reality, don’t and not to encourage women to rebel or be less well-behaved. However, I took this quote to mean that in order to make history you need to stand from the crowd and find your own unique way in life. And so I did!
